Over the years I, and others, have given flowers to Flo. Sometimes they come from her own garden. I
have photographed them fresh or dying, in various locations, usually at our home.
Originally I had called this collection Flo's Flowers. However, Flo likes only fresh flowers and I prefer
to document then as they decline into their final states; dead, dry or rotten.
Flo believes that dying flowers present a negative energy, while fresh flowers are still bold with life,
full of promise and hope.
I take the other view, that what catapults beauty into the exquisite, from promise to poignancy, is
death.
It is the sheer courage, the awful daring, to create such beauty in the face of mortality.
It is the awesome finality of death that makes beauty eternal.
Let the flower stand for the human spirit.
Only the flower can capture that frail beauty made profound by death.
