Roadside Epiphanies
by Michael Andrews

These images are the result of years behind the wheel, largely in the Western States, driving somewhere for some reason or other; going nowhere fast.
The pictures are mostly taken from the road side, along highways, in the deserts of Nevada, the farmlands of California, the nights on New Mexican two laners. It is simply a matter of what caught the eye and what the traffic conditions would allow.
The subjects vary; landscapes, roads, signs, places, farm equipment, abandoned buildings, desert junk yards, the antics of the moon. I tried to capture the feeling of being on the road, of those roadside epiphanies that confirm that it is the journey that counts, not the destination, and in particular those places on the road that we often do not see because they are remote, abandoned, or deceptively uninviting.
It is what is hidden in the ordinary that reveals the metaphysical now. It is what we would otherwise overlook because it is veiled in the passing blur of the world going by, and because the world goes by faster than we can imagine, faster than we wanted.
     And suddenly, night has fallen.
