1997 CHAMPAGNE SERIES
January 12th   January 19th   February 9th

South Bay Yacht Racing Club is pleased to announce the 1997 Champagne Series, open to all members of PHRF and One Design fleets.

Traditionally one of the most challenging "Round the Buoys" Series, sailed in varying winter conditions, this event is scheduled to include five races to be sailed on three Sundays.

The CHAMPAGNE PERPETUAL TROPHY will be awarded to the Series overall winner. The KLEVE PERPETUAL TROPHY, established to honor the years of service given to SBYRC by Gregory and Mary Jeane Kleve, will be given to the yacht with the best Series record from the Cal 20 and Santana 20 participants.

Each established class will be awarded Series trophies on the last race day. Bottles of champagne will be awarded as class trophies for each race at the end of each race day.  Be sure to mail your entry form early!

1996 MATCHLESS MATCH RACES

Due to very light and shifty conditions, which kept the mark boats very busy, only three of the scheduled six heats were run. In spite of that, the racers benefitted from an excellent pre-race lecture given by Tom Leweck, leading to very close racing highlighted by some aggressive starting maneuvers.

Special thanks to our Race Committee participants on both days.  This is a challenging race for the committee as well as the racers!

Laura Brownell provided hot pasta, salad, and garlic bread which was very much welcomed by the racers.
