Two Days of One-on-One Racing
Within One-Design and PHRF Fleets
S a t u r d a y & S u n d a y, N o v e m b e r 8th & 9th, 1997
NOTICE OF RACE
FORMAT: This regatta will be a two day match racing event for One Design fleets, as well as PHRF yachts who wish to compete "boat-for-boat" against similar PHRF yachts. Our goal is to provide as many races as possible during the two days of racing.
LECTURE: A one hour match racing lecture will be presented to familiarize skippers and crews with the basic tactical and strategic principles of match racing. This lecture will occur immediately following the Skippers Meeting on Saturday morning, November 8th, 1997. All skippers and crew members are encouraged to attend.
ELIGIBILITY: Each entrant must be a member of a yacht club or sailing association belonging to US Sailing, racing a boat which is registered in the class or fleet in which it competes.
ENTRIES: All boats must be preregistered and fleets will be established based on entries received by 1900 hours on Sunday, November 2nd, 1997. Entries received from November 3rd through 1900 hours on Friday, November 7th will be included in established fleets on a first-come basis but cannot initiate additional fleets. Minimum fleet size is four boats with a maximum of ten. PHRF entries must include with their entry forms, the names of the boats against which they have agreed to compete. To enter, complete the attached entry form and submit it with the series entry fee of $25 (US Sailing members $20), either by mail to South Bay Yacht Racing Club ("SBYRC"), PO Box 10967, Marina del Rey, CA 90295, or by delivering it to the SBYRC drop box located at California Sailing Academy ("CSA"), on the 2nd floor to the left of the main east entrance, 14025 Panay Way, Marina del Rey. Please make checks payable to SBYRC.
RULES: This series will be governed by The Racing Rules of Sailing for 1997-2000 ("RRS"), the prescriptions of US Sailing, the PHRF and/or One Design class rules (except as any of these are altered by the Sailing Instructions), the Sailing Instructions and any amendments and notices issued by the Race Committee. Appendix C, Match Racing Rules will apply, with some exceptions that will be noted in the Sailing Instructions.
UMPIRES: There will be on-the-water umpires during the start sequence. Infractions which occur after the start will be governed by the procedures in Part 5 of the RRS and the Sailing Instructions.
SAILING INSTRUCTIONS: These will be available by Saturday, November 1st at the SBYRC drop box located at CSA, on the 2nd floor to the left of the main east entrance, 14025 Panay Way, Marina del Rey. The Sailing Instructions will also be available at the Skippers Meeting although it is strongly advised that they be read prior to that time.
RACING AREA: The races will be conducted in Santa Monica Bay on the ASMBYC Olympic Circle off the Marina del Rey breakwater.
SCHEDULE OF RACES: The Race Committee will run as many races as possible during the two days of racing. The first starts are scheduled at 1230 hours on Saturday, and at 1200 hours on Sunday.
SKIPPERS MEETING: Registration packets will be distributed at 0830 hours, Saturday, November 8th, 1997, in the ground floor room at Marina-Venice Yacht Club ("MVYC"), 4333 Admiralty Way, Marina del Rey, (310) 823-9030. In consideration of your acceptance of my entry, I agree as follows:
1. My yacht will be equipped to conform with
any USCG safety requirements and those of any fleet or association whose
rating system will be used for the race in which I compete.
2. I agree to comply with the rules of the ISAF, as adopted by US Sailing,
and by all other rules and sailing instructions governing the race.
3. By listing a PHRF rating, I certify that I hold a valid PHRF certificate
for that rating for this season; or by entering a PHRF rating for an established
one design class, I certify that I qualify as registered in that class.
4. Any contestant or any member of the race or protest committee may inspect
my yacht before or after the race.
5. I hereby release the Club, its officers, agents, employees and committees
from any and all liability for any injury to myself or my yacht arising out

my part.
6. I assume any risk of injury arising out of my participation in the race,
failure or breakage of my yacht or any of my equipment, or weather
