Series Eligibility and Scoring Procedure
The Man/Woman Series consists of two classes: A spinnaker class and a non-spinnaker class with a perpetual trophy awarded to the series winner in each class. All entries must be sailed by a crew consisting of one man and one woman only. Unlike other racing series, where the boat accumulates points regardless of the actual skipper, in this Man/Woman Series it is the man and woman as a couple who accumulate points. This means that the couple could change the boat which they sail during the series without affecting the accumulation of points for their finishes. Each man/woman couple is a single entry, and must remain as a unified entry through all the events. If an entry starts in all 4 events, one member of the couple may be replaced by an alternate in one of the events, as long as the entry remains one man and one woman.
An entry must start in three of the four events to be eligible for Series standing. After the last event of the series, race standings shall be re-scored with only series eligible entries included. The Low-Point Scoring System, Rule A2 shall apply except that each entries’ total score will be the sum of its scores for all events. Couples who retired (RET), did not finish (DNF), did not start (DNS) or were on course side (OCS) will receive points equal to the number of series-eligible couples (this changes Rule A2.2). Couples who did not compete (DNC) or were disqualified (DSQ) will be scored points equal to the number of series-eligible couples plus one point. Series scoring ties will be broken in accordance with Rule A2.3. If there is more than one race per an event, the position in that event will be used in the series scoring.
If a yacht club has only a non-spinnaker race, couples who normally race in the spinnaker fleet shall sail non-spinnaker in that race. Spinnaker and non-spinnaker entries from any non-spinnaker only race shall be scored separately in the series scoring. Spinnaker Class will use the PHRF Area B buoy ratings; Non-Spinnaker Class will use the PHRF Area B buoy ratings including non-spinnaker offsets. If a boat type does not have an Area B rating, her base rating will be used. One-Design boats will use the Area B PHRF rating.
After each event, the sponsoring club will award individual trophies in each class. Perpetual trophies will be awarded to the entries with the lowest cumulative point score in the spinnaker and the non-spinnaker classes. Perpetual Trophies will be awarded at Windjammers’ Yacht Club at their year end trophy ceremony.
