Having had the honor to have been Commodore for the last eleven months, I now have to move on. Just when I was beginning to have fun, too! Our highly successful Champagne Series was entered by some forty racers. I feel that we will benefit from the joint activity with Windjammers Yacht Club next year, and I urge you to come and join in three days of exciting racing in 1997. The Man/Woman Series was also quite successful, with nearly twenty "couples" taking part. We have as yet to run the Match Race, but this year's Match Racing promises to be very active, with a new opening for those racers who want to race PHRF (boat for boat - no handicap) joining in the fun.

A disappointment for us, and for women racers, was the cancellation of the Women on Water/Woman at the Helm Series. There was little support from racers, maybe because of timing, or maybe from lack of interest. Do women racers want to have a separate event or have we all progressed to the point where racing is non-gender specific now? A last note - we were successful in securing sponsorship for the 1997 SCYA Mid-Winters. Look for more news at our annual dinner. Please come by and say hello and tell me your thoughts - I'll be the one with the look of relief on his face!
