NOTICE OF RACE

RULES: This series will be governed by The Racing Rules of Sailing for 1997-2000, the prescriptions of US Sailing, the PHRF and/or One Design class rules, the Notice of Race, except as any of these are altered by the Sailing Instructions, the Sailing Instructions and any amendments and notices issued by the Race Committee. Sailing instructions will be available no later than August 2, 1997 at (a) the South Bay Yacht Racing Club ("SBYRC") drop box located to the left of the main entrance of the California Sailing Academy ("CSA"), 14025 Panay Way, MdR (2nd floor, east end), (b) the Marina Venice Yacht Club ("MVYC") Dockmaster's Office at 4333 Admiralty Way, MdR, ground floor and (c) SBYRC's web site at www.beachnet.com/~sbyrc.

ENTRIES: Each entrant must be a member of a yacht club or sailing association belonging to SCYA & US Sailing, racing a boat which is registered in the class or fleet in which it competes. A completed entry form and an entry fee of $20 for US Sailing members or $22 for non-members must be submitted for each boat, either by mail to SBYRC, Post Office Box 10967, MdR, CA 90295, or by hand to the SBYRC drop box at CSA by 0900 hours on Saturday, August 9, 1997. Late entries may not be accepted unless arrangements have been made with one of the race chairs.

NOTICES: Classes, class flags, order of starts, class starting times, any amendments to the Sailing Instructions and Notices to Competitors will be posted by 0900 hours each race day at SBYRC's Notice Board at CSA and at MVYC Dockside Room, 4333 Admiralty Way, MdR, ground floor.

SKIPPERS MEETING: There will be a skippers meeting on Saturday, August 9 at MVYC Dockside Room starting at 0900 hours.

CLASSES: Entrants may compete in one of three divisions: (1) the Women on Water ("WOW") spinnaker division for all women crews, (2) the Woman at the Helm spinnaker division for mixed sex crews with a woman driver and (3) the Woman at the Helm non-spinnaker division for mixed sex crews with a woman driver. Within these divisions, classes will be established for PHRF fleets based on entries received by 1900 hours on Friday, August 8. If fewer than four entries are received for a division, an entry may be combined with one of the other divisions at the discretion of the race chairs. One Design fleets with four or more entries will be eligible for separate fleet trophies but will race in the PHRF fleet and will be scored based on their equivalent Area B rating.

SCHEDULE OF RACES: The Race Committee will attempt to conduct five races in this series, with three races scheduled on Saturday and two races scheduled on Sunday; if a makeup race is needed, a third race may be scheduled for Sunday. The warning signal for the first start of each day will be at 1150 hours. Subsequent races on each day will start as soon as possible after the finish of the preceding race. Order of starts may be changed after the first race of each day.

COURSES: Saturday's races will be selected from ASMBYC Course Chart 15 including Chart Instructions, conducted on the Olympic Circle off the MdR breakwater. Sunday's races will be selected from a course chart which will be available with the Sailing Instructions, conducted off the Venice Pier, approximately one mile west of the north entrance to the MdR breakwater.

SCORING: The Low Point Scoring System, rule A2, with no throwouts, will apply. Five races are scheduled of which two must be completed to constitute a series. Series standings will be scored on the basis of the races completed by each class. PHRF Area B buoy ratings, including non-spinnaker offsets if applicable, will be used.

PRIZES: Crew prizes will be raffled each day and series trophies for each class will be awarded on Sunday. Post-race festivities will be held at MVYC on both days. The number of trophies awarded will be determined by the number of boats in each class:

4 entries -      1 trophy
5-6 entries -   2 trophies
7-10 entries - 3 trophies
10+ entries -   4 trophies

The overall winner in the WOW division will be awarded the Robert S. Wilson Perpetual Trophy.
